Ever wonder what it was like to work at an early stage start up in an emerging market? The OZÉ internship is designed to give graduate and undergraduate level data scientists exposure to building a new product for the African market. The Date Science Intern will work as a full team member and report directly to the Director of Data and Analytics. They will lead or contribute to the development of new models to predict business performance, credit-risk, and assess the usability and efficacy of the OZÉ product suite.
Preferred Skills & Experiences
Proficiency required in at least one of the following statistical analysis/data management tools: SQL, R, and/or Python
Minimum 3 years of coursework in Statistics, Economics, Computer Science, Mathematics, or other quantitative field
Superior oral and written communication skills with both technical and non-technical colleagues and customers
Basic, practical understanding of data structures, statistics, and computer science
Experience with applying Statistics or Machine Learning methodologies: Regression, Classification, Predictive Analytics, Decision trees, Support Vector Machines
Experience operationalizing statistical models in an academic or professional setting

Empathy for the problems faced by small business owners and a passion for solving them
An eye for design - both left-brained and right-brained
A great listener with a sense of curiosity
Ability to work in a shifting and ambiguous business environment
A self-starter. When you are shown the destination, you draw your own map.
The Data Science intern has the choice to work in Ghana or Boston. Due to the early stage of this company, we are not able to provide a salary, but can help defray some of the costs. We can also assist you to apply for funding from your university.
